The project includes the construction and operation of a pulp mill with a production capacity of 3.5 million tons of dried pulp per year. In connection with the project, a 90 km long power line and a 47 km long railway connection and terminal at the port of the city of Santos are also being built. The main raw material supply comes from approximately 400,000 hectares of eucalyptus plantations. The project will contribute to job creation and export growth while generating 400 MW of renewable energy.

The project has a preliminary classification as category A. The key environmental and social risks and impacts from the project relate to resource efficiency and pollution prevention; community health, safety and security; land acquisition and involuntary resettlement; and biodiversity.

The original Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of the project is available in the following web link:

EKN conducts Environmental and Social (E&S) due diligence of the project based on the existing ESIA. EKN is engaged in close dialogue with involved parties to ensure that risks are managed in line with international standards.

The information was published on EKN's website www.ekn.se on October 28th 2025. Comments on the project can be made within at least 30 days. This procedure is in accordance with the OECD Recommendation on Common Approaches for Export Credit Agencies (ECAs), the so-called “Common Approaches”.

* In the case of reinsurance, EKN bases its environmental and social assessment on the review previously performed by the export credit institution that applies for reinsurance with EKN. This export credit institution has previously published the project’s ESIA in line with the OECD's recommendation.
