Sokoto to Badagry Super High­way – Section 2, Nigeria

The project involves the construction of approximately 258 kilometres of highway in Kebbi State in northwestern Nigeria. The road is part of the planned Sokoto–Badagry Highway, which will connect Sokoto in northern Nigeria with Lagos on Nigeria's west coast.

The work includes, among other things, a three-lane concrete-paved highway, site preparation, drainage, road markings, traffic signs, and solar-powered street lighting. Bridges and viaducts are not included in the project.

EKN has provisionally classified the project as A and the potential environmental and social impacts are primarily related to land acquisition and resettlement, biodiversity and impacts on natural habitats, community health and safety, and labour and working conditions.

EKN conducts Environmental and Social (E&S) due diligence of the project based on the existing ESIA. EKN is engaged in close dialogue with involved parties to ensure that risks are managed in line with international standards.

*In the case of reinsurance, EKN bases its environmental and social assessment on the review previously performed by the export credit institution that applies for reinsurance with EKN. This export credit institution has previously published the project’s ESIA in line with the OECD's recommendation.
