The project involves the construction of approximately 37 km of 132 kV double circuit transmission line with an associated substation, from Mirama substation to the proposed Nsongezi substation via Kikagati. This is part of the Government of Uganda’s plan to expand access to electricity to lower poverty in line with their national development plan.

The project has a preliminary classification as category A and its environmental and social risks and impacts relate to the following key areas: land acquisition and resettlement as well as biodiversity. The original Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of the project is available in the following web link:

EKN will conduct an Environmental and Social (E&S) due diligence of the project based on the existing ESIA. EKN will also be engaged in close dialogue with involved parties to ensure that risks are managed in line with international standards.
