Metro Project in Kocaeli, Türkiye
The Swedish Export Credit Agency (EKN) is considering a guarantee for financing of equipment to the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments (AYGM)'s project “Körfezray Metro Project,” which covers 29 km of metro alignment with a total of 58 km of tracks in Kocaeli Province, Türkiye.
The project involves the construction of 19 stations, and a dedicated storage and parking area for trains. It aims to enhance the public transportation network, reduce congestion, and contribute to environmentally friendly mobility that supports the city's urban growth and ensures equitable access to transportation.
The project has a preliminary classification as category A. The key environmental and social risks and impacts are related to labour and working conditions, community health, safety and security, and cultural heritage.

EKN conducts Environmental and Social (E&S) due diligence of the project based on the existing ESIA and is engaged in close dialogue with involved parties to ensure that risks are managed in line with international standards.
