Transmission line project Saudi Arabia (KSA)

The project includes 900 km overhead transmission lines from Madinah to Tabuk, 10 km underwater cables for the alignment traversing the Red Sea to Sinai, one transmission station and two converter stations. 

The project forms part of the larger ”KSA – Egypt Interconnection Project” with the purpose to establish infrastructure for increased electricity trade between the two countries and to meet their increased energy demand.   

The project has a preliminary classification as category A. The key environmental and social risks and impacts from the project relate to labour and working conditions; biodiversity; land acquisition and involuntary resettlement; and cultural heritage.

EKN conducts Environmental and Social (E&S) due diligence of the project based on the ESIA. EKN is engaged in close dialogue with involved parties to ensure that risks are managed in line with international standards.
