“This is a welcome decision,” says EKN's Director General Karin Apelman. “We now start the new year well equipped to respond to Swedish export’s demand for our services, with increased scope for new transactions. At the same time, I would stress that it is still important that all EKN's guarantee commitments are risk-weighted, economically sound transactions which benefit both export companies and EKN.”
Background to the increased framework
On 17 December, the Swedish Parliament made its decision on the 2010 draft budget presented by the government on 21 September. The draft budget included a proposal to increase EKN's guarantee framework to SEK 500 billion. The Swedish Parliament approved the proposal and with effect from 1 January 2010 an increased guarantee framework for EKN's operations is in place.
