EKN 2011: Record-high guarantee-issuing – half for exports to Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa

EKN guaranteed export transactions totalling SEK 63 billion during 2011. There is wide demand around the world for goods and services in sectors where Swedish companies are strong. Large groups as well as small businesses export to emerging markets and need EKN's guarantees. During 2011, EKN guaranteed 1,458 new transactions in 126 countries.

Guarantee-issuing has increased significantly year-on-year over the last four years. Swedish exports are showing the largest increase in typical EKN markets – countries in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. Half of this year's guarantee volume accounted for transactions in these markets. At the same time, the economic uncertainty in many OECD countries means that EKN is also required for transactions there.

“Swedish exporters are taking advantage of the opportunities in global trade,” says Director General Karin Apelman. “I am pleased to say that Swedish exports are growing, despite the turmoil and economic problems in many areas of the world.”

The ability to offer attractive payment terms and financing for sales is becoming increasingly important to Swedish exporters.  Financing also plays an important part in exporting companies' opportunities for expansion.  Continuing uncertainty in the financial market has increased companies' need for a risk partner.

“Risk management is our main branch at EKN, and we are increasingly seeing Swedish exporters and banks making systematic assessments of which transactions and markets would be strengthened by a collaboration with EKN,” concludes Karin Apelman.
