EKN’s mission and objectives

The mission for EKN is set out in the ordinance from the Government. Furthermore the Government annually issues objectives for EKN:s activities. In the Annual Report, we describe the results of our activities and how we have achieved the objectives. Below are the objectives for 2009, with cross-references to the pages in the Annual Report where the results are described.

EKN shall promote Swedish exports by offering export credit guarantees and investment guarantees. The chapter on Export opportunities describes the issuing of guarantees during the year. See page Scope of guarantee operations. The table on page Risk exposure shows the scope of the guarantee activities.

EKN shall develop its efforts to small and medium-sized enterprises, and broaden its client base. The issuing of guarantees to small and medium-sized enterprises has increased. The customer base was broadened by 121 companies. See page SMEs in more than 90 countries.

EKN shall report how the objective of increased Swedish exports has been achieved, and which industries have been promoted. The need for EKN guarantees in order to carry out export transactions has been exceptionally large. See page All markets and new requirements.

EKN shall work closely with other Swedish bodies promoting exports. EKN works closely with the Swedish Trade Council, SEK, Swedfund and Almi. See page SMEs in more than 90 countries.

When issuing guarantees, EKN shall develop its efforts to promote ethical concern for human rights, the environment, corruption and social issues. The ethical considerations EKN incorporates into its guarantee operations include the environment, social issues, the battle against corruption, and the promotion of sustainable lending to heavily indebted poor countries. See page International cooperation.

EKN shall develop electronic services, with the same or greater cost efficiency. The processing of guarantees online has expanded. See page Employees.
